V.A. Official Acknowledges Link Between Delays and Patient Deaths - NYTimes.com

  1. When this story first came on the news, I was outraged. Isn't it something that the men and women who faced death at the hands of their enemy for their country now face death at the hands of health care in their own country? It's ridiculous that patient's on public assistance have access to better healthcare than our nation's heroes. I understand that the VA faces a challenge because doctors can make more at private hospitals, but it is well known that the nation's money is way over-spent and wasted in so many areas that could be better spent taking care of our veterans. I have experience in this area seeing first hand the treatment that veterans get due to my grandfather, a vietnam vet, having been in VA hospitals in the past. It is so sad to see the state of these facilities, given the value of the honored lives they are responsible for.

    1. Cody, your comment includes everything that I feel on the issue. I could not have said it any better. I have the utmost respect for our country’s veterans, and it breaks my heart to know that our heroes are not being treated as such. Also, I am highly considering serving in the military after graduating college, whether that is serving as a nurse for a certain branch or at a VA hospital. This article is disconcerting, and while it may deter some from a future in the military, it actually pushes me even further in that direction. I wonder if I could make a positive difference in the VA hospitals and speak up for our soldiers.

  2. Both of these articles were posted on October 6th; the first around 6:30pm and the second around 10pm. It is relieving to know that action is being taken against some of those who are not upholding their duty at various VA hospitals.
